Changing phones with a GLP-1 tracker: how to keep your injection history

Short answer

It depends on where the app keeps the data. Account-based trackers (Shotsy, MeAgain) restore by signing in. Device-only trackers (EvenDose) move with the rest of your phone through iPhone-to-iPhone transfer or a full iCloud or computer backup — and do not move if the new phone is set up from scratch. Before switching, check which kind you have and, for device-only apps, make sure a backup exists.

Who this guide is for

Anyone on weekly GLP-1 therapy who is about to replace, upgrade, or reset an iPhone and does not want to lose the log of doses and sites.

Step-by-step

  1. Find out where your app stores data. Open its privacy policy or settings: if there is a login, the data is on the company's servers; if there is no account, it is on the device. Why: this decides everything below.
  2. Account-based app: nothing to do beyond remembering the login. Sign in on the new phone.
  3. Device-only app: make sure a backup exists. iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now. Or back up to a computer. Why: the app's data is inside the phone backup; no backup, no data.
  4. Set the new phone up from the old one. Use Quick Start (phone-to-phone) or "Restore from iCloud Backup". Do not choose "Set up as new" if you want the data.
  5. Check the app on the new phone before wiping the old one. Open it; the last injection should be there. Why: the old phone is your fallback until you have seen the data on the new one.
  6. Export a report as a paper safety net. In EvenDose, the PDF report covers 3 periods; it is for the clinician, not a restore file, but it preserves dates and doses if everything else fails.

Common mistakes

  • Setting the new phone up as new because it is faster, then discovering the log is gone.
  • Wiping the old phone the same day.
  • Assuming "no account" means "no backup possible" — it means the backup is yours, not the company's.

Tools that help

EvenDose (device-only, moves with the phone backup), Shotsy and MeAgain (account-based, restore by login), a paper calendar (moves by hand).

FAQ

Does EvenDose have cloud sync?

No. Data stays on the device; it moves through Apple's own transfer or backup, not through us.

I set up my new phone as new — can EvenDose recover my history?

No. There is nothing on our side to recover from. If the old phone still exists and has a backup, restore from that.

Does the iCloud backup include EvenDose data?

Yes, by default, as with other apps' data, unless you have excluded the app in iCloud settings.

Will my subscription move?

Yes. It is tied to your Apple ID; use "Restore purchases" in settings if the app does not recognise it.

Do Shotsy or MeAgain lose data when changing phones?

Not normally — sign in with the same account.
